The wife has been asking for a camera for a while now and has been showing interest in photography so I've decided that's what I'm going to get her for her birthday. This will be her first real camera and I have no idea what I'm buying. I would like to go with a nice entry level SLR, something that wont break the budget but still be a good camera she can grow into. I see lots of people using canon 60D-80D's on here and those are a little out of the budget.

I was set on the canon T5 rebel until I went into a local store and guy tried to up-sale me 2 models (and double the cost of what I was looking at). I didn't feel like i was really getting help just getting sold so I could use some advice.

The rebel had what I thought was a nice package (see link below) but would like to hear some recommendations from others.

All great choices. Like reefing its not the tank its the reefer.
Ine thing to consider is the newer mirrorless camera systems. Its the same sensors sizes generally. The biggest plus to consider is the size. Do you want a brick around your neck and will you or the mrs keep shooting if if you have to put the brick on.
Nikon Canon Sony Fuji Panasonic and Leica (Pana/lumix) uses the same sensor and processor btw. All have AMAZING systems now and its actually becoming the trend in professional photography.

the down side is lens choices kinda, find one with a long zoom and a short zoom and thats all youll probably ever need. in the 21st century dont worry about mega pixels, your iphone pics can be printed at poster size with no artifacting.

for macro look for close focus lenses. Mirror less will often have a closer focus on a stock zoom because of very complicated technical thingy stuffs. but basically the back glass is closer to the film....oops sorry sensor.

I have the Canon t6i. It's a good camera but the kit lenses are only adequate depending on what you're shooting. Good thing with these cameras is you can go anywhere with the lenses, Macro, telephoto or just the straight nifty50..
