A bit off topic, but I'm shopping for a new camera and some of you are excellent photographers with nice cameras, so I thought I would ask what camera you would recommend. It's not just for Reef use though. I need something with lens options and my 16 y.o. will use it more than I will.

Thanks

Are you wanting a dslr or a point and shoot type? What kind of pics are you wanting to take? Biggest question, rough idea of budget? Depending on how you answer, I will suggest further.

what is your budget?

I'm thinking DSLR In the $500 - $600 range. If that's possible.
Does this include lenses?
Willing to buy used?
You will want a macro lens for your tank.
And to get the most out of your pics, you'll want to shoot in RAW format so budget $10/month for Adobe Lightroom which is bundled with Photoshop too.

check B&H online. Canon T series are within this $ range.

Good suggestion. Don't be afraid to buy used either. You could pick up a used Canon 30D, 40D in that range with a lens or two. Macro for the reef is a must if you want close up shots of coral. You will also want a longer lens for outside/daughter stuff depending on what she is into. We can get as technical as you want but it can get very confusing.

Here are a couple listing on C/L right now that are not too bad
Canon T2i (with extra lens)
Canon Rebel T3i w/ Canon Nifty Fifty 50mm lens
Canon 60D (w) 18-55mm IS (REDUCED)

You don't have to get Lightroom right away either. GIMP is totally free and will handle all your needs in the beginning.
