Camera suggestions needed! Calling photography experts.

Looking to get into more detailed photos and higher quality than my iPhone 7 plus camera. Anyone have any suggestions and photos to back them up with? I do have a Sony alpha series 200 with stock lens but I'm guessing it's no where near or getting that professional look.

Any of these worth it? Looking to get God macro shots. And I know the lens matters just as much as the camera but I need some camera gurus here. would like to spend no more than $500ish.

Both are nice cameras, but shoot for a camera with an articulating view finder.

Nikon and Canon are both good choices. Canon does better with the white balance I've always found if you are going to take pictures of your corals glowing under solid blue LED's ever. If that's not a concern then I would go with Nikon over Canon just because of their reputation for glass. Canon is usually more feature based than Nikon, but Nikon focuses on their quality just a trad more. Canon does have great quality still and I ultimately use Canon for my aquarium. If you go for the Canon rebel series like their new T7, get the "i" as this will have the articulating view finder and a few extra features. Meaning "T7i" instead of just T7. Grab a tripod and a macro lens and you'll be good to go. Here is a pic I took of some fruit loops under all blue with my Canon T3i a few years ago. I could never replicate this with my Nikon D7200.

Get a decent Macro lens...
Nikon D7200 with Tokina 100ATX Pro

I have the most basic Nikon d40 with the 35-55 mm lens and it works fine. Picked it up used on Craigslist for a college photography course, where I learned how to use it and shoot in manual mode. The mega pixel isn't as important than the lens and settings you shoot in. You can get a macro lense afterwards if you want super detailed coral shots, but I use a hobby magnifying glass and it does the job. I paid 150 for it few yrs ago.

Any really. All available are good. 60mm will be cheaper, 100mm more. Youll want the 100, if your doing super macro.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe a $199 used macro lens that retails $350
New.

I would love to buy an expensive camera..but that's the problem.
I use a great little app on my iphone called snapseed. Take a photo..open the app and use all the tools to sharpen, colour, highlight etc.
Not as good as a DSLR but then it's free.

I'm not an expert per se but I have the Canon Rebel T6, just got it about a week ago, and I absolutely LOVE it. But I only have the iPhone 5s to compare it to, so I guess that's not saying much....
