Hello everyone,

Any suggestions on Cameras for taking aquarium shots? I started a facebook page for my tanks and answering questions or finding the answers if I don't know, but my camera is older and not quite up to the greatest standards.

It all depends on what type of photos you want to take?
DSLR w/standard Lense: Great all around camera and most of the new models shoot in 1080 vid.
DSLR w/60mm or 100mm macro Lens: Supper nice pics but the camera body and lens would cost over $1K.
Point and Shoot: Most of the new models have a macro function and have supper high pixel count.

The most important piece of photography equipment is photo processing software.

All of this is just my opinion, I am not a profession photographer.

Rob's right on. To get really good macro shots of corals you're going to need a tripod and turn the flow off. In macro mode the camera lens can't harvest as much light so the shutter needs to stay open for longer than you can hold still. For sharp pictures the water can't move the coral either. If you buy a fast macro lens for a dSLR camera you can speed up the shutter speed a bit but fast macro lenses can easily cost more than the camera itself. With a good tripod and a "decent" point-and-shoot with zoom and macro functions you can do fairly good with macros unless you're trying to photograph single polyps, for instance.

Thas was taken with a P&S; about the best you're going to be able to do without a dSLR:

I have been working on shots with a canon eos t3i - using both a regular/ zoom lens and a macro lens - have to work on my macro technique, though - appreciate the tripod tip!

I would like to take the best pictures possible without photography becoming a whole other hobby onf its own.
