Tank has been up for a year and a half. Trying to increase cleanup crew to help w some algae but can’t keep hermit crabs alive. Snails do fine.

What could be the cause? 6 line wrasse or high nitrates. Corals doing well. Nitrates run around 25 ppm. I’ve never noticed 6 line picking on hermits.

Thoughts?

Hermits usually fight with one another. If you have say, 12, before you know it there's 6, then 2, then 1. The most dominant usually kills off the community.

That's why LFS loves to sell them bc you have to buy 12 of them every 6-12mos bc the population gets killed off from inter-community fighting. It's a revenue stream for LFSs..... and, oh, btw, while you're there getting more hermits you pick up a $149 tang that wasn't even on your radar. LOL!

God bless Capitalism.

That's why I love URCHINS. Best CUC for the money and workload
