I’ve been trying for a year to keep coral alive and have asked previously for help. I have done my test and even used a par meter for lighting.. not sure why I can’t keep coral alive.
I got a new ricordea a week ago and placed it on the lower rock work.. went to the hospital for a few days and came back and it was on the sand and looks bad now.. I’m thinking my peppermint shrimp was eating it. What advice do y’all have? Could I be right?

is that the only coral in your tank? how are the other corals doing? when is the last time you added a coral and it died?

It could be the shrimp this time (if it was starving), but when you say that all your other corals have always died, it becomes harder to blame the shrimp for this one time, know what I mean

Yeah I totally understand. I have wanted to give up because I’m not doing these corals any good. I’ve got a bubble coral that is doing amazing! And some blastos and a single Duncan that are doing good. I had some candy canes that even grew new heads but then they suddenly bailed out(wondering if it was an alk swing).

I stopped adding corals for months and started vinegar dosing and trying better husbandry to lower nitrates and phos.

I finally dialed in my lighting and got nitrates down to 25-30 and got this mushroom. I can’t explain how it got off the rock work onto the sand other than my shrimp.

I bought an icp test and haven’t yet sent off, but I figure that’s one of my next steps.

my rodi is a 5 stage coming out at 0 tds, 0 P03&P04.

Granted, I do no testing (other than occasional salinity), but a year in and this tank still won’t keep mushrooms alive long-term. Go figure.

mushroom can move themselves by, 1) walking, and 2) releasing themselves and floating in the current until they land somewhere, so again, the shrimp is not the only possibility. But I'm not a coral expert, so hopefully others can help with guidance, good luck.

Thanks. Yeah my first thoughts was it may have moved, but it was purchased on a small rubble rock and is actually still attached to that same rubble rock.

Here is a picture of the bubble coral. Is does really good and I feed all my corals with mysis, ab+, and reef roids.
