Can 83F kill coralline algae?

Will keeping temps around 82F-83F make a lot of my coralline algae turn white (dying/bleaching) or do you think there’s a different factor?

It almost looks like my rocks have white speckles on it.

Long story and I’d rather nor get into detail as it’s controversial. I am definitely able to lower it though. I was just wondering if that could be the cause.

ACR reef says this on their website:

“All of our 13 strains of Coralline Algae are tropical species, they will not grow in very cold waters, and their reproductive rate is the fastest between 78-82 degrees. We strongly recommend having a heater controller to eliminate fluctuating temperatures, if the temperature fluctuates too much or too often the spores will stay in a dormant like state until this is corrected.”

Established coralline should be able to withstand that if it’s not something prolonged.

I think anything at 83° inside a SW tank woukd start to fall apart.

Been reefing since 2007 and I dint believe my tank ever got above 81, ever....so I can't help you

It’s been at 83F for about 10 days.

I will say that I also have copper running. It’s a FOWLR.

So either the temp or the copper is killing it?

Probably a mix of both, is this an attempt at disease treatment? Copper with live rock in a DT is a big No-No it will absorb the copper long term

Yes, it’s an attempt at disease treatment.

Will the rocks absorb copper during treatment? Yes. They will. But it’s very minimal and I test/redose daily. It never drops below therapeutic.

Will the rocks absorb copper permanently? No. Running cuprisorb for 2 weeks longer after copper tests 0 will ensure there is no more copper leached in.

Do I plan on keeping corals/inverts? No, but not because of copper. Because I have non reef safe fish that I enjoy better.
