Hi
I will need to cut a large piece out of my overflow. I'm hoping a dremmel can do this. Do I need to get a special blade for this? My ritteri lives on the overflow, and i'm moving into a new tank. Safest thing to me is to cut around the nem.
TIA

A Dremel is probably going to just shred the overflow into a fine assortment of acrylic particles which I can't imagine would be good for any aquatic life to ingest (especially the anemone).

An alternate course of action would be gently pry the anemone loose (I used the razor scraper from a Seachem scraper to gently remove mine).

Agree with blaxsun. I used a Dremel to remove a small piece of acrylic on my sump and there was crap everywhere. On the other hand, it did float and most was removed easily so it didn't end up getting into my tank. As for the "blade", I used the common wheels that came with my kit. I suppose a diamond wheel or some other specialty item could work a little better, but unless you can cover the nem to keep any acrylic shavings off of it, I wouldn't chance it.

All life woudl be gone by time I do it. But still a big chance of acrylic powder and bits getting in the nem. I'll go back to peeling it off. I just desperately do not want to tear it at all. I know how crazy sensitive ritteri's have. This is my 3rd or 4th one. All the others died within a few days or weeks due to infection I couldnt cure.

Edit: the base woudl start coming off the overflow as the tank water is drained below the level of the ritteri. I think I can more easy coax the base to cleanly peel off then.

I was going to say, I have success removing nems from rocks by pulling the rock and hanging it over the water so the nem chooses to fall off. Lowering the water should do the trick but be sure to put something underneath for it to climb on to.
