Can a Flame Angelfish be with Coral?

I heard Flame Angelfish are not exactly reef safe. I am still planning to add coral and a anemone though. Will the flame angelfish stay away or eat the coral?

It's a gamble. Some don't, some do. All dwarf angels are a potential risk. Getting a captive bred one like from Biota may help, but it's impossible to predict with certainty as it's just a part of their wild diet. Keeping it well fed may also reduce the risk, but there is no surefire method and each fish is individual in its behavior.

What coral? They're most likely (albeit not guaranteed) to bite at fleshy LPS.

I have one that doesnt bother any of my corals, I have a mixed reef. But its a gamble. Id say 60% good and 40% bad.

I have found that fish are trained that new stuff in the tank you drop in is for them. I think the best outcome would come from corals being in tank, then adding the flame angel.

That being said, flame angels are really common in reef tanks. After 10 years I’d say 1-in-5 is a trouble maker.

i have one and a coral beauty in mine with no issues

id be more worried about the anenome as in a previous tank one eat a coral beauty

I have a coral beauty and a flame angel in my lps heavy tank and both have been model citizens. My previous flame angel used to occasionally pick at my red cap monti, but I didn't mind that.

Mine is great so far and there is a ton of fleshly LPS for it to go after. I plan on it nipping at some things though and am not worried

I just re-homed one that went after LPS and a clam. It was a model citizen until one day he wasn’t. Some people report success by keeping them well fed. But it’s a gamble.

some can with some corals....

It's absolutely possible, they are little angels.... well pigmy, they are little butt*****!

I've rarely had issues with dwarf angels in tanks. But I also qt them feeding them just NLS pellets and when they go into a display tank I use autofeeders feeding small amounts multiple times a day so they're not tempted to go after corals.
