Food-wise, the ruby eats copepods and the goby, like you said, is a sand sifting maniac. They shouldn’t take each other’s food sources. Right?Depends on if there is enough natural food (probably not in the long run) or if you feed them enough and the right kinds of food. They both need to eat often. So decide if you want to dedicate the time to them and your plans if you vacation.
The tiger is a sand sifter and not a shrimp goby. The common name makes it seem like a shrimp type.
While the goby won’t look for them on the rock it will certainly eat any around the sand bed or under rocks impacting their numbers.Food-wise, the ruby eats copepods and the goby, like you said, is a sand sifting maniac. They shouldn’t take each other’s food sources. Right?
Oh wow, I had been thinking only mandarins ate copepods. Had no idea the other fish in my tank may eat them as well. That sucks. I’m attempting to establish them before getting the ruby. Guess I may have to buy the little copepod hotel. Lol! A place they can hide from the other fish. While the goby won’t look for them on the rock it will certainly eat any around the sand bed or under rocks impacting their numbers.
All fish will eat them if they see them. They are super tasty snacks!Oh wow, I had been thinking only mandarins ate copepods. Had no idea the other fish in my tank may eat them as well. That sucks. Good info! Thx! I’m working on my refugium now.All fish will eat them if they see them. They are super tasty snacks!
I do not believe a hotel would be enough if your plan is to mainly eat copepods. Luckily rubies take prepared better than mandarins. So you can supplement frozen several times a day.
A macro algae dominant tank would provide a lot of spots for pods or a very large refugium. Maybe 20-30g. Some just culture pods and add them to the tank or buy them.
