I have a 40+ head Acan colony that I have had for about 4mo now. I first had him on a new rock on the bottom and was doing good until I found my Chocolate Brown Tang nipping at it. It was at about 125 par. I ended up moving him on a rock near at the top of the tank because my tang only hangs out at mid to lower tank level. I put my lights in 75% acclimation mode for 2 weeks and he was doing great for the last 3.5mo and the Tang left him alone. Par at 235 after acclimation. I have decided I will be adding SPS to my tank so I want to get my par at the top of the rocks to 300-350, plus I re-configured my Vortech pump locations so I moved the Acan colony down to a lower location and it was doing great for a few days until the Tang found him and started picking at him. I just moved the Acan colony to the top again but a slightly different location with 205 par and to where he wont get blasted by flow. Can Acans handle a 300-350 par if acclimated properly? Thinking a 1-2mo acclimation period. The only other LPS I have near the top of the rocks are my Torch and Frogspawn and I do know they will be fine at higher par levels when acclimated properly. I am just not sure about Acans.

I wouldn't expose them to 300+ mine seem to thrive best at 80-120 par. I would expect them to bleach with that much light.

Thank you for your recommendation. Just out of curiosity, if a coral was to bleach due to too much light how long before you would notice the bleaching? I only ask because I was doing some research and I saw on you tube a tank were he said his Acan colony has been at 325 par for a few years and it looked great. I did also notice during my research that the majority have there Acans from 50-150 par. Mine did good at 235 par but I am not sure if 235-250 will grow SPS sufficiently.
Unfortunately it is starting to look like I need to get rid of my Tang or stick with LPS only and keep my lights where they are set to. Wife won't be happy if I got rid of the Tang since she picked him out.

I found higher par made mine lose color and just be all orange.

Rainbows tend to get all red with higher par. I wouldnt say they bleach but they lose some of that flourecence

Dedinitely will turn red,or brown. Or they will shrink down. If you want insane colors, gutload feed them like crazy, low par about 100-150,constable params and sit back and watch the magic happen.
