i am currently without a tank. I am going to get one in a year or so.(moving and don't
want to start a tank and then have to break it down.) I had a fowlr with dsb in the 90's for about ten years. I've read a lot about leds and the problems they have with acans(growth and retaining colors.) Has anyone had success with acans under leds. thanks

I run LEDs and have had great growth and color. I think it depends on the lights you are running and what spectrum they cover. Im running it2080 and have ran it2040 and both have worked well for me.

on my previous tank with Kessil A360 WE lights, acans were actually one of the few corals that thrived under these lights. Most people who have struggled with acans have had issues because too much light intensity morphed their acans or they turned a bland coloration. Most of the time, this can be recovered by moving them to an area of lower instensity and/or reducing the led intensity.

Most of the very intensely colored specimens come from much lower light than you would expect.

I have had them before under LEDs and have seen growth and good color. Mine have always liked low light and would have problems under even medium light. Also the colors are way better under lower light. They eat a ton and the more you feed them the faster they grow.

Just from my personal experience with acans I can say that they grew pretty well under LEDs but keeping great colors was a huge struggle for me. Now all my acan along with chalices are under T5 ATI bulbs. And I think they look decent

The Acan in my profile pic was kept under kessil a160s.

im good over here, running a razor over the nano and radion over DT. my OG highlighter just spit a baby and only had it a lil bit. still great color on it and neptunes crowns.

The issues I've seen with leds are people turn them up way too much. Leds don't seem very bright, but they really pack a punch. Especially the white leds. I believe this is why so many people have issues, they crank the lights up and the corals can't take it.

I am guilty of this myself. I had 800watts of MH over my 120g tank and the corals loved every minute of it. Then I switched to two ecotech leds. The leds do not look like much compared to the MH, but they pack a punch.
I had to turn down the white channel to about 20% and that helped greatly. Now my corals seem to be fine and I can grow pretty much anything including my 4 acans.

If I were you, I'd buy a led/T5 combo. You won't regret that!

I didn't see the purple rim on my rainbow acan till I supplemented my radions with two ati t5 blue +.

Kessils growing awesome colors on mine. These all started from single or double heads.

You're rainbows are looking nice under that kessil. I have the same light and noticed raising it a little higher may be helping mine keep their color.
