It seems a well established practice to feed various algae eaters land vegetables as supplements, but can they be fed land vegetables exclusively?

That is always up for debate. Just buy less of a cleanup crew. Then you don't have to buy extra snails, die off causing ammonia, buying vegetables, and risking the health of an animal cause we can't exactly ask a snail "do you feel okay."

We have cuc to clean up. If your adding food specifically for them then you have too much cuc.

When we feed our fish & corals, that feeds our CUC.

For the same reason that a diet of fresh water feeders cause a marine predator to die of malnutrition. Marine algae’s are high in omega complex nutrition. Land veggies don’t make the grade.
