Can Anacropora sting plating Montipora.

Found an Anacropora fell and came into contact a purple monti cap?

Within a few days the montipora lost colour(went pinkish) , the edges where contact occurred turned white and ultimately the coral died. I did break off some pieces in hopes of saving some, but the frags also perished.

ive had some problems keeping monti in the past (nudies), but think I solved the problem.

Typically the entire colony doesn't die when being stung by another coral. Only where they touch does the loser die.

If you lost the entire thing, it was not from being stung from another coral.

I’m not sure about Anacropora but I know for certain Acropora’s will damage Montipora. I have a had an acro frag fall off my frag rack and onto a large monti cap. It didnt look good but I guess the two corals were quite healthy as they recovered in a week. For the first few days the Monti will have discolouration, lots of slime while for my Acro there wasnt too much damage.

I suspect that Acros are way more potent than Montis. Its a pity I didnt take a picture of when it happened but these are pictures of them now. The plating monti has a weird hole like shape as the Porites on top fell on it and broke off a huge chunk half a year ago. All the corals have been secured now so thankfully no more falling.
