This has been growing i an sps tank of a friend. for quite a few months. It is suffocating the corals and he cannot get rid of it. Will appreciate id and help on how to eradicate.

Looks like its a slime/cyano algae. How you checked your nutrients? High levels, including phosphates, is an indicator.

I will ask for the parameters but i am sure its a low nutrient and the phosphates and nitrates are very low. Iits very hard to scrape, grows on corals and kill them. He is trying "Vibrant" which is to me a weird mixture. He told me that it might be "Caulcanthus ustulats". Again I have no idea what it is. Does it ring an algae bell?

Tank is mainly SPS with ATI hybrid light system
Parameters: Ca-450 Mg-1350 KH 8.1 NO2 0 NO3 1 PO4 - 0.04

Look like Actinotrichia algea,
 
Thanks ! Based on images sounds like we have an id!
Now we need help on getting rid of it although its powder may be used as a medicine
