Can anybody identify this?

I found this in my live sand bed on day 4 of my tank cycle. I removed it but not sure if I should have.

It's red in color. Sorry for the bad picture quality. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If it was mixed in sand, maybe rhizome from sea grass. Looks a bit like it.
