Can anyone help birdsnest not doing so hot

Not sure what to do system is 240gal parameters are nitrates 5 phos.02 calcium 450 alk12.1 mag1343 pH 7.94 ammonia 0.001 temp 78 flow is 4 returns from sump and two wp40s one on each end lights 2 razor 420r 27 in and a ocean revive in center (amazing light I must say)... All other corals look great but this one doesn't

seem to like it anywhere in the tank would hate to see this coral die.. Any ideas on placement would be great thank reefers

IME with birdsnest, they are very sensitive to changes, and are usually the first coral to show signs. Looks like your middle light puts out a lot more than your ends. Wish I could help you more.

why does the polyp extension look so weird in comparison with an average birdsnest...hard to get a good look at it from semi blurry pic.... (and thanks for your service guys)

I don't know, that's the only polyps left. the rest of it has died off I have a birds of paradise above it its growing amazingly never having a issue.. Where the polyps do extend they look good the flow in this area is very turbulent though not sure if that's good for this type of nest?

When the polyps extend very far like that, the coral is dead or nearly there. I had the same thing happen to a small frag I got. Started happy and encrusting then took a turn for the worst. The polyps were always extended really far and would slowly fall out and float around the tank until there were none left.

That's weird, because I have a birdsnest that can get 1/8" of polyp extension (no joke) and its growing like a weed.

It was weird. I blame myself for not keeping water parameters in check. I have a feeling its a defense mechanism when the coral is dying. The polyps bailout trying to survive and rebuild. Mine died about 2 months ago so I'm sure if any polyps survived to rebuild, I'll be seeing something in about 6 months or so.

Some bn are funny. I have a ton of stylos, pocci, lots of ora bn like hyacinth, bird of paradise, orange green polyp, normal pink, and no issues. I cannot keep the normal green w green polyp nest for anything.


Also I have a ton of trouble with ponape. It grows Faster than any of them, but green slime takes over the base as fast as it grows. Everywhere I cut it& move it to it gets the green slime. Luckily like I said it grows so fast I've been able to keep cutting & trying new spots but the slime always seems to follow it. Lol
