I’m wondering what type of coral this is and also how big do they get? Thanks!

seems like a scolymia. an LPS.

nowadays so many corals are getting renamed, or put in another family.

Great thank you. I’ve had it for over a year now but wasn’t sure what it was.

Not scoly. Acan enchinata

I agree that it’s not a scoly, looks a lobophyllia or Acan pachysepta to my eyes.

what is the difference? coloration/pattern?
Scoly often painted is a meaty coral and will have full button/center with flsh whereas acan will have cavity and ribs as below:

I believe you’re right. I just googled lobophyllia and I found this picture and it looks exactly like the one I have. Thanks!

I’m 90% sure that’s actually an Acanthestrea Pachysepta, they look almost identical to lobophyllia, and it can be difficult to tell them apart (for decades they were misidentified as lobos). Just based on the color and the septa sort of protruding a little bit, I’d say it’s an A. pachysepta. Here’s an article about them (and a photo of mine eating, it has since murdered the ‘dragon soul’ Favia that’s behind it, my fighting conch aided and abetted):

Thank you! Well at least I know it’s one of the other. Time will tell when hopefully it starts to divide.

Thanks! I just googled this and it definitely could be a button scoly. There are some picsthat look exactly like it. Well at least it’s been narrowed down between 3 corals now.
