I picked this guy up at my lfs today for $40. Can anyone give me a specific species of leopard wrasse this is? Sorry about the bad pick, he was swimming happily at the store but bolted for the sand as soon as I dropped him in my tank!

As above, ornate / splendid leopard, guessing the face markings are more blue than shows in the pic.

Also can I mix leopard wrasses? They had some really nice black leopards and female blue star leopards I would like to add one of each in a 4 foot long 75 gallon only if it's safe for the fish.

How can you tell it's female? Also thanks everyone for answering!
The spots on the jaw become more striated as it matures, the first two dorsal spines become less pronounced, and it's body depth gets deeper.

As females they are usually fine, however an acclimation box for introducing new individuals is a good idea.

Males and mature females can sometimes squabble, so do keep an eye out for that.

Thanks for the info !! Much appreciated

I mix leopards a lot but the more you have the better your odds.

By the way my submale ornate leopard is one of my favorites!

She's a beauty!
This was one of the first fish that caught my eye and eventually started my involvement in this hobby, but I have yet to keep one; yet.

Good news!!!! After hiding in the sand since Saturday, he's out today and ate live brine!!
