So I bought a few frags today and I noticed this weird coral piece with some odd coloration on it. With further inspection it looks like some sort of a purple mat with holes in it and I got it for free, I've never seen this before.

Colonial tunicate.

Could be but they have a flowery like structure close to a very small zoa that flows with the current and they somewhat glow under antic light?

The morphology - encrusting with regular round openings (mouths) with surrounding tentacles seems more consistent with a montipora or a similar family of corals. Pavona or chalice perhaps...

Not too sure about that tbh, I poked at it a bit and it is very soft and it has no hard skeleton underneath. The moment I poked at it the flower like polyps retreated back into the purple mat.

It was a little difficult to pick that up from the image. Any chance you can get a better one?

So an update, the main body developed a slight neon green hue. I'm lost on this specimen?
