Hello, fairly new to this hobby and have run into an issue with this white mucus like substance that seems to be coating everything. Tank is 112 Gal and has been running now for 3 months with this problem being around for about 3 weeks with no improvements. The substance is easily removed from the rocks, glass, etc. but seems to be everywhere now, pipes, pump, sump, etc. This is at a point where I can not run my filter socks as they will fully clog within 4-5 hours so I am now running filter pads that I am replacing at around the same time intervals. It was suggested to try adding a UV and a carbon reactor which has been implemented. Tank is stocked with several corals, 2 clowns, 2 Tangs, 2 shrimp, 1 sand sifting star, 4 Banggai, and 25 small hermits. Current water values are;

Temp 76.6
pH 7.84
Alk 8.73
Calcium 461
Mag 1327
Sal 1.025
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 2
Phos .02

Any insight as to what this stuff is and how to eliminate would be greatly appreciated.Slime Pic

My guess would be some kind of cyanobacteria, Lyngbya being at the top of my guesses. I would feed your fish more to help raise nutrients some so other stuff can compete against it. I also would do water changes and siphon it out. When you say "carbon reactor" are you using GAC in a reactor or some kind of carbon dosing? GAC would be a good thing but carbon dosing is only going to reduce your nutrients further.

Timfish, I have 1 cup of ROX 0.8 Carbon inside of an BRS reactor. I will increase amount of food to see if that helps. I actually siphoned out 10 gallons last night around 7:00 pm and this pic was taken early today. That is how fast this stuff comes back. Appreciate the help.

fascinating have never seen following along please update if raising nutrients worked

(you can dose nitrates and phosphates as well)
