Thats the point of red in the ocean, that spectrum doesn't reach deep levels. That's why a lot of deeper dwelling species are red in color. Also if you are diving, get a red lens for your camera. It'll make a huge difference in your pictures.

Speaking of lenses- do you guys have any recommendation for a lens I could use to take pictures of my reef?

I just bought whatever was on Amazon and had the highest rating. This one hasnt caused any issues for me.
