It isn't any of the common "carpet" hosting anemones --- S. haddoni, S. gigantea, and S. mertensii.
It isn't a "sebae" which is the common name for both H. crispa and H. malu.
In fact, I don't think it is any of the hosting anemones. Perhaps it is an S. tapetum.

i got it from petco who had it labeled as S. gigantea but I in fact agree with you that it is not a hosting anemone. i think it is a stupid atlantic anemone S. Helianthus

Yeah I agree with your assessment. I'm guessing that you're disappointed? Im quite good at restating the obvious. I rescued my s. haddoni from PETCO. They were unpacking a shipment and this large carpet was in a bag with nothing but a couple ounces of the foulest looking slime you've ever seen. It was touch n' go for a couple weeks but then he pulled through and is a great animal!

yes i am very disappointed because i specifically asked them if it was an S. Gigantea so that my oscellaris clowns would be able to host with it. I have had it almost a year now but I am working with Petco at a higher level then the local store to try and get this resolved so I can get the correct anemone. That is a nice S. Haddoni and i am excited for you that it pulled through they are amazing. I know many people think that the carpets are boring but i think they have much more character then the other anemones out there especially once you get your clowns to host with them

I'm with you on this! They exhibit moods and are quite a dynamic addition to the reef echo system! If it makes you feel any better I've got a pair of oscellaris, a black osc, and a perc all together and they couldn't give a **** about hosting. I've tried so hard doing so far as to try various urban myths including use of a flashlight, taping a photo to the glass, stapling the clown to the anemone, etc with zero success thus far. I've gotten to know the Petco DM here in bama and he's always quite willing to assist with issues like yours. If the store manager won't or can't go to the DM.

I was thinking that it isn't a hosting anemone after that second pic. My clowns avoid my carpet also, I'm not sure of the species though. Everything avoids it, except a comb tooth blenny I used I have that tried to steal its food. It didn't make it out in one piece. Here's a night time flash pic
