My wife just spotted this the other day. It's in a low light low flow area, under a chalice and growing on a large portion of the rock. Some spots look like they could have a siphon like some sort of sponge, but I can't find anything that looks like this. I can't imagine it has been there too long, or I would have noticed it before. It also doesn't appear to be anywhere else in the tank.

Sorry for the pic quality. Any help would be appreciated.

From the looks of it, I would say sponge, which are filter feeders and good. You would have to get a closer picture to really get a good ID

It’s probably a sponge like mentioned above. They are harmless and beneficial to your tank but can be kind of an eyesore.

If I leave it alone, will it get out of control or bother any of my corals?

It doesn’t grow very fast or usually spread that much. It doesn’t really bother corals either unless they are trying to grow out like zoas and the sponge is in the way of the zoas growing out. I have a few in my tank and just leave them as they are not in the way of any corals yet.

Great. I'll leave it alone. Nice to have a little extra filtration.
