Hey everyone im not sure exactly were to post this. I have some green tube like things coming out of my rock there green. I have no clue what it is can anyone identify it.

highly accurate call. the rock should be removed and not used in this tank, its that serious. we (I) on the absolutely giant and 6 yr running peroxide threads claim this is the worst invader a tank can get and that invasive dinoflagellates of the worst order directly in someones eye is more preferable to NA in a tank.

You have time to fix they are insane. We have baked entire tanks in multiple quarts of 35% peroxide directly documented in the reefcentral peroxide thread only for this to multiply and everything else to die.

Ironically and in total opposition to my claims, the big marine plant database lists these as moderately easy to keep

There is one know cure for NA, ultimate exclusion. remove any rock they are on, and do something else with it, perhaps a tank intended for neo. the rock must be acid etched cooked and recycled to use again.

I have not found anywhere online a repeatable set of actions to cure a neo tank, and we had one lucky poster in the RC peroxide thread who was able to lift out rocks, use screwdriver to chip up under them, and rid the tank of the first few popups.

others tried this, and found mos later the reproductions already seeded the rest of the tank. in 2015 I claim if you see neo, remove the rock its on and simply don't ever use it without acid etching total kill. This is the most serious reef tank invader I know of.

it is absolutely not nutrient affected.

heh

haha oh man the thing is its a sea horse tank and now im not sure what to do

it certainly wont kill them, this is part of the totally natural marine flora that exists where it can, ive never read them to be poisonous or allelopathic such that they couldn't do just fine hitching to some neos, but this species simply reproduces well and no aspect of this tank should ever be moved to a reef tank, where they certainly w outcompete corals and take up the vital space on the live rock.

like all other reef invaders we term some 'bad' or good based on what us humans like to see. the plant is thinking whats up dude ur against me because of how I reproduce????

By all means you have no problems trying to help us find cures you have nothing to lose. any of the rocks with them on it, try various things to eradicate them from the rock there is always something, we haven't found it yet because reefkeepers with this stuff go insane and never post again heh

you will find this amusing though if we can predict and accept whats likely, so there's no surprises. it will simply/typically just start to pop up I don't even know how it reproduces, spores or runners, can't explain how it jumps rocks in reef tanks its simply beaten my tail in any tank we tried to burn it out claiming peroxide was all that lol

Ummm mine never left the one rock they were on nor reproduced more than a few buds. It eventually disappeared.

I agree that's possible there are one offs all over reefing. the need in question is to be able to affect that in any one elses tank, if you have threads of such post em we've been looking long time
we had one person beat it by chipping them out, but we've never seen anyone be able to remove them from say, 4 tanks in a row in a given thread. contrast that to GHA, we remove it in 100% of tanks but this stuff is invariably a rascal!

all neo threads go down like this above

I wonder if it was the constant grazing of the urchins. There were two rock boring urchins and a long spine in that tank. I never really read up on it being invasive all those years ago. So paid little attention. Lol wish I had that way I might be able to offer any clue on how to eradicate it.

There is def something in nature to keep it in check, rule for all primary invaders. urchins are a great brainstorm, they weren't tried in the tanks we faltered fixing it that's a decent call. I randomly googled some threads and its amazing to see the lengths some went through, total tank teardowns. look at this one dudes forested tank w it! it doesn't look bad at all. macro algae specialists seem to like it, and seahorses don't mind macro.
