Can anyone tell me what is it?

Sorry guys, my camera sucks, I will get my Nikon D80 back and shoot nicer pics. This piece is very strange thing, I don't know if it is brain or chalice. Its eye color is bright green, not like what is shown in the 2nd and 3rd pics but similar to the first pic's color but nicer.

It does not have any feeding tenticles, when it feel food on top of the eye, the green eye sink deeply. Then surrounding tissues cover the food and pump and rise up, this step is similar to chalice feeding behavior.

Can anyone ID this one for me please? I call it Mummy Eye because the bright green eyes and the unusual texture of the dark brown tissues just like the skin of a mummy. It is my favorite piece in my tank now.

I have echinata too, it is absolutely different thing.

i would say echinata as well. or atleast one of the acans.

I just did a huge search through all the book and onlince to ID one of my own unidentified. corals. in doing so i looked at the entire acan family/ chalice/favia. mine turns out to be a very uncommon type of favia. yours however looks very much like several of the acans.

I cut a frag off mine and cleaned off the flesh to get a good look at the skeleton and coralites in order to be sure about mine.

It does not have feeding tenticles, Echinata have these tenticles. Echinata's feeding behavior is very close to those Acan lords, but this piece is very different.



Here is a Echinata, not my pic, but shows feeding tenticles as other Acans, Favias and Chalice.

how long have you had it?? maybe you have just not seen them. without a skeleton it is stuff to pin point some of these things. thats why i fragged a peice of mine. lots a frag to do it but atleast i know now.

I have it for a week, and feed it already.
When it sense the food, its mouth part pump out like the 3rd pic shows.
If it has tenticles, they will show up and very easy to be recognized.
It enjoy eating live shrimp's meat.

lets see the back of it. also are there any areas that show a bit of the skeleton that you can get a macro shot of??

im positive its not a mummy eye. but with the above shots we may be able to help a bit more
