I have a 10 gal. Invert. quarenteen tank that has a lot of aptasias in it. I seem to lose a percentage of each batch of snails I get. Just wondering if the aptasias might be causing a problem.

How much aptasia do you have ?
How are you acclimating the snails ?

A lot. I bought a couple of peppermints, but one didn't seem to eat any. The other, ate some and they both disappeared. Presumed dead, probably eaten by the bristle worms etc. It has been a while. I believe I drip acclimated the last batch, probably an hour or so.

My suggestion would be to restart the whole tank since it’s a QT tank. Easier than spending even more money to take care of the problem.

They are an anemone. They can and will capture food. Can kill very small fish so......Hard to tell if the snails died because of this. New snails die quite often. They are cheap so not to worry. If it was me I would use the tank as an experiment. See if you can get rid of them without pulling out all the rock and sand and starting over. Peppermints will usually only eat the baby aptasia. You will have to kill the big ones with kalk paste, Aptasia-X or vinegar. Nudi's work too but cost a lot and will die as soon as the aptasia are gone.
Or maybe you dont have the time..... just a thought

I don't like to lose any livestock, even snail's. Just wondering if anyone knew or had experience. As far as the aphasia goes there are probably over a hundred in that 10 gallon. Out of control perhaps. And, yes we could clean it out. However we feed them to our file fish and I am considering raising berghias, and since they only eat aphasia you have to have a food source for them. The plus side is it doesn't take much to grow aptasia.
