I have a bottle of BRS Reef Chili that has been in indirect sunlight on a countertop for a few months now. I noticed that the powder in the bottle around the edges (the powder being exposed to sunlight) has significantly discolored. The center of the bottle looks close to the original, more vibrant color. I was also unable to find an expiration date, or any additional handling information on the bottle itself.

Does anyone know if this stuff can go bad?

Probably bad especially If there was any moisture in there. It may still be usable though. In futures cool and dark place if possible.

Sounds like sunlight caused some of the stuff to break down. Could be bad, could also be neutral. I agree with LadyTang though, you should probably keep it somewhere cool and dark (like the fridge!).

If you're super worried, you could consider tossing all the discolored food, and then just using the non discolored food.

hi,i have seen this before ,one can one color ,another shade different, never in same can,but used anyway no ill effects, jmo :)

It's a freeze dried product, shouldn't go bad.

I have a bottle that 4 years old and still use it(totally underestimated how big the bottle was, and how little you actually use).

SUnlight -- UV, can and will break down Biological tissue. Think sunburn.. Smell it.. if it is very pungent it may be bad.. keep in mind dead aquatic stuff stinks some anyway.. UV will also cause color fading in almost anything.. I would try it.. either way and keep it in a cool dark place. Other things the I know ruin foods is moisture.. and it doesnt take much. A humid day with the container open for all of 3 minutes can do it.. Every time you open that container you get air exchange.. and last I looked, Reef Chili is not a vacuum sealed container.. so packaging counts as well..

All possibilities to think about.
