Can coral survive with 0 nitrates?

Can coral survive with 0 nitrates?
My phosphates are 0.10

but my nitrates are reading 0ppm. I’ve been told they should be at 0.5-0.10ppm.
I’m considering adding a protein skimmer but I’m worried I’ll never give my tank the chance to produce nitrates and phosphates at an acceptable level for coral growth.

The corals really need something to eat so you could maybe start using some of the coral foods like Reef Roids, Reef Energy or maybe just add some more fish to increase nutrient levels.

You don’t really want zero of anything although phosphate should be kept very low at around 0.03ppm

If readings are 0, that doesn’t necessarily mean the corals are not able to and aren’t successful in taking it up.

As long as there is an input of available nitrate that is feeding the coral their required amount and nothing more, your readings remain zero but their requirements are fulfilled.

Now the likelihood of that is slim. It is either the corals are being underfed or your nitrate is increasing.

I always error on the side of caution and make sure I have readings nitrates By feeding heavy and dosing as needed.
