So had dino in my tank about 2 weeks ago for around a month treated it with h2o2 in the end it cleared up. No fish loss.

A fellow reefer had some chaeto off me during this outbreak i washed it through throughly and told him to do the same before adding it.

Yesterday i get a message from him saying his anthias died and his regal tang looked like he was on his way out!

So after he spend some time googling marine velvet he found a article saying about it coming from dino ?

This all sounds abit far fetched to me opnions please?

( i will add the info from the thread he sent me below)

Dinoflagellates are probably the most common "life-form" in any environment on earth. (wouldn't surprise me if it existed in space too tbh)
There are many, many, many different types, and the likelihood that your dino problem and his velvet disease are remotely the same is very unlikely.

Marine velvet is indeed a dinoflagellate. This is the reason a velvet free swimming dinospore can live without a fish host for 16 or so days surviving solely from a light source. It can not survive long term or complete the life cycle without a fish host.

A dino in the form of nusiance algae is completely different than the form of a fish parasite.

If a fish ingests the algae type it can be toxic to the fish.

If your tank has velvet peresent and he moved macro algae to his tank from yours, then his fish could become afflicted with the parasite.

If your tank doesn't have velvet present, he couldn't have gotten velvet from your dino algae outbreak. Make sense?

If the said person doesn't QT all inbound coral/inverts/fish properly and you do, the velvet in their tank likely came from somewhere else.
