Can fish see IR light?

I bought a camera to watch my aquarium during the day. I haven't turned on the IR lights because I'm not sure if the fish can see it. Most of my fish sleep at night except my porcupine puffer (with eyes the size of dimes) and eel, but I don't want to feel like I am shining a spotlight into the tank all night. I've turned the light on and off but I'm not sure if I am getting a response.
