Hi everyone. I recently tested my mg at 1460. Alk 9, Ca 550. Are these numbers going to cause a problem for my zoas? Some of them are closed.

Mag is ok up to 1500. Cal at 550 is a bit high. How did you get it up so high?

I don't really know. I stopped supplementing a while ago. I do a 10% water change with seawater once a week. The ca is never low. It could be a test error. I'll check it again today.

my alcium always runs in the high area of 475-525, I do't think it's a problem for live stock, but high calcium can make your pumps wear out faster.

Checked it again and got 1200. Testing vial must have had some mg residue. I cleaned it out and this is what I got, which makes much more sense with the tank's history. Sheesh.

my cal is alway above 500, never a problem for my corals, SPS seems to grow faster too, just have to deal with a lot of calcium deposites on back glass and overflow box.

BTW, if you use sea water, that means you don't care about pathogens in your tank? how are the fishes doing, do they ever get sick

Good question. The seawater I use is purified by the lfs to remove all pathogens. I buy it from them and it's worth every penny.

oh i see, thats means they filter it with UV before selling to you. Good service.

Thanks everyone! As I posted above, the high mg reading was a testing error on my part. It's really 1200. Btw, how long are mg tests accurate. I have a Red Sea one but it's over a year old.

Now your talking low Mag. Should be at 1350+
As for Zoa's? It's been my personal experience that the lil buggers do what they want no matter what you do-lol I can't keep them alive no matter what my parameters are.

the only thing that really hurts them is your dkh being out of wack. other than that they are solid.
