Can I add a salinity probe to Hydros?

One thing that isn’t part of the Hydros system is the salinity probe. Its my understanding that many find these erratic at best, but I very much find the GHL probe to be useful for, at the very least, peace of mind. I just got a waveengine and am considering adopting the Hydros controller, but I would miss having the salinity measurement.

I’m guessing you can’t plug a third party probe into the Hydros, but hopefully either I‘m wrong or perhaps there’s some adapter that can make it work?

Not possible at this time. They have confirmed they are working on some unspecified salinity monitor solution that is not probe based but no one knows how far along that is.

Has the Hydros team been able to include salinity monitoring via a 3rd party probe, or, any progress on developing a native probe?
 
The new upcoming release of the Control X10 will add salinity monitoring. No other devices have been announced that have this capability. And the salinity port is a special port designed for this function, you can not use a conductivity probe on a standard hydros probe port.

 
Salinity in my tanks doesn't really fluctuate so I'm not sure why it would need to be monitored. In the brief 7+ years I've been doing this I've never had to adjust salinity in a DT am I missing something?

Mostly just piece of mind, but also achieving parity with other products on market. Also meant to ask if ORP monitoring will be supported.

ORP is supported on any device with Probe ports
 
Being one that has grown tired of Neptune I'm keeping my eye on this. Couple thoughts/questions.
1) Not sure I like the attached dosers to the controller. Bit too much of everything and the kitchen sink. It definitely works out more economical though if you use dosers which I don't.
2) They added a conductivity probe which I want but they skimped on the probe ports. I need 2x PH (tank and Ca reactor, 1 ORP and conductivity along with 2 temp (plenty of support). Part of that is assuming they actually have temp compensation for the probes. I've not seen an extra probe module and it looks like maybe you have to buy a second head that has probe ports.
3) Seems to be tailored towards using CoralVue stuff. Have to wonder about my Radion G5's, pump and MP40's. I'd love to get away from Mobius and at least Apex has a new module coming to control that stuff.
4) Even though they have USB I wonder if its compatible with any Apex stuff like the feeder.
5) Going to need at least 15 outlets. Currently using 2 EB8's and a power strip because the EB832 bit the dust. Even GHL is $270 for just 6 outlets. Either way that gets expensive.

Hey if nothing else maybe this product will light a fire under the new BRS/Ecotech/Apex conglomerate to get it right. Well even GHL didn't manage that.

1) the dosers are user replaceable and common parts that you can get directly from kamoer if you needed. This is both the dosing head and the motor block themselves. It’s very very rare that the driver/circuit board side of a doser fails, usually it’s the head or motor. Both which are easily user serviceable with a push on connection.
2) to get more probe ports (ph or orp) you can add on a x3 (1 probe, 2 sense) or a x4 (2 probe plus much more). Hydros doesn’t have modules. Instead you add on additional controllers. When you do this, each device increases the robustness of your system. Each controller is running in parallel with the same configuration but one controller is the main orchestrator of the system and others are secondary. If one controller dies, the others pick up and still operate. This Atleast allows you to limp along while you can fix the issue or replace the failed device. Other systems if your brain dies, you’re SOL. Also when you add additional units, they are hard wired using cables and they become something called a “collective”. All inputs and outputs are shared and in the app it looks like one homogenous controller. The more you scale the more powerful your redundancy becomes.

3) the wave engine is upgradable to control pre-mobius mp wave makers but mobius is a highly controlled ecosystem that unlikely will be allowed to be used outside ETM/NS. That being said, Hydros is always open to working with 3rd party companies and has integrated with some products from Focustronic and Kamoer, with others to come. I know there was talk that Sicce integration is in discussion.

4) the usb on the Wi-Fi power strip is purely for power only

5) the xp8 is the best option for critical items like heaters and pumps. Plus it provides a hardwired link to sensors in your system and it has power monitoring. For less system critical items such as maybe a skimmer pump, LEDs, cabinet lights, etc you can consider the cheaper Wi-Fi strip for $40 for 4 outlets. If you balance what must be a critical item vs secondary, the Wi-Fi strips can help your budget out. But note that they require an active router bridge over Wi-Fi between the strip and main controller for control, so there is some risk (hence using only for secondary items). But the xp8 connects via hardwire to other controllers giving ultimate reliability.

Thanks for the response and it's something I will keep in mind. Being an old technologist I've learned to not let my impulsiveness get the best of me to jump on the bleeding edge. When the dust settles, I may consider the move. Always nice to see new innovative aquarium products made in US.
