im running a FOWLR tank 55gallons wtih i'd assume at least 35lb's of base rock/real reef rock ( mostly base rock ) with a green spotted puffer, blue tang, ocelarius clown, and a bursa triggerfish. i would like to add something to sift the sand preferably NOT a fish but seeing as i have a very aggressive trigger and a puffer crustaceans are out of the picture. wondering if i can even add anything to this tank or if it is over stocked. all my fish are currently small.

is it possible to add anything or must i remove some fish and if so what? i don't plan on doing it right away but later in the future maybe 3-4 months from now

A fighting conch would do the job, they are nocturnal, bury themselves under the sand during the day and there shell is to strong to be broken by a small (under 1.5 feet in length ) trigger or puffer and their reflexes are to fast for most fish. Plus you would only need one for your hole tank

i also forgot to mention i live in Hawaii so the species need to be native i believe as we have very strict laws when it comes to importing and the stores here tend to not carry anything besides fish even crustaceans are very rare to find in the stores here. i know we can keep brittle stars though and sea urchins.

if possible of course if not a list would be fine i can always just check online when purchasing as they tell me they don't ship to Hawaii or not when proceeding to check out.

I think the tank is unfortunately already overstocked with the Blue tang and Trigger. The puffer pretty much eliminates most inverts......speaking of the puffer, isn't that a brackish water species or do I have my puffers confused?

i thought so i might rehome the the trigger in the future to my LFS. yes it's a brackish water puffer but i have read extensively that you can slowly acclimate it to salt water which i have done and people have had great success with it in salt water . i've had it in my SW tank for a little over a year now.

although i also don't want to rehome my trigger as well so if anything i will upgrade my tank rather then rehome it and buying other things.
