Can I add fish or coral now?

Conclusion: Not enough oxygen
What I have done: Added air pump with airstone, parameters are the same.

Question: Now that I added the air pump can i add another fish and coral?(I have an alprime light)

If not running a skimmer- plan to add for added oxygen
If tests are good - go for it But slowly .
remember - fish don’t talk - test kits do

Corals dont need oxygen, that being said the lack of oxygen will lead to an accumulation of CO2 which leads to a drop in Ph which will then affect corals, but even this is in extreme cases. As for fish, you should be good now. If you can increase the surface agitation that would help alot too.

Ok thanks, the pump is rated for tanks twice the size and has greatly increased surface agitation.

Just to clarify...oxygen is most certainly a requirement for coral and not only in how c02 relates to PH.

I have a 1000g reef tank in my living room. My biggest tank is 1590g freshwater. Will add photos later! Cant wait to see your tanks!

As far as i am aware there is only a single animal identified that does not need oxygen...and it is not any type of coral. I am not an expert of all the ways coral use oxygen and wont try to give a complete explanation. One good example is the use of zooxanthellae however. In addition to providing coral with "food" it also provides coral with necessary oxygen. Coral uses the oxygen and "exhales" co2. Of course coral does not have a traditional respiratory system when we think of lungs, etc.... it does however need and use oxygen through cellular respiration as I understand it. Again I am no expert here, but I believe that is one reason why oxygen deprivation in a tank impacts fish much more than coral generally; because coral essentially have their own oxygen factories living with them.

Having said that here is a good article that goes into a lot more detail about oxygen and the need for it on coral reefs (with parts of the article focusing on the use of oxygen specifically by the coral).
