I have seen to the 1 inch per 5-gallon ratio posted on many sites though have also seen many state that there are too many variables to determine. I currently have a 55 gallon tank which has been running about 13 months with a decent amount of bio/rock and synthetic filtration. I currently have:
A) flame angel
B) royal gramma
C) 2 clowns
D) 2 PJ Cardinals
E) diamond goby
F) Fire shrimp and other invertebrates.

Would it be too much to add a melanurus wrasse?

Thanks!

Doesn't seem like you have many now. Are you testing your water? I think that calculation is determined by what your filtration can handle. Also the territorial dispute between the fish.

Yes, the water consistently tests at good levels. So based on the fish (all of which I understand are relatively peaceful) would you consider it ok to add the wrasse? I'm already above the 1inch to 5 gallon ratio.

if your bioload can handle it i dont see any aggression issues with the melanurus wrasse. But that might be pushing it space wise. That odd aggression can happen if each fish does not have its own part of the tank to call mine.

That 1 inch to 5 gallons is not useful in the slightest For salt water. adding fish i would solely look at each fish and how much of the tank it own. And be realistic if another fish can carve out its own space.

watch your fish interactions to see these boundaries, when does the clown chase the gramma. When does the flame chase someone. Where do the fish retreat? Is there place the wrasse could call its own?

I’d say you’ll be fine but nothing really after that.

I agree with this. It really comes down to the individual fish needs of your stock list and how they interact with each other.

I have learned there is no rule for saltwater fish. This hobby is nothing like freshwater fish.

I agree with the above statements, can your bioload handle this? I tend to be on the caution side, i do not stock my tank with alot of fish.

To me you have alot of fish in a 55 g already.

All depends on your filtration. I have 8 fish 2 eel's in a 60. High bio load, with high bio load filtration. My corals are thriving.

Thanks all for the responses. I am going to hold off on the wrasse for now.
