Can I and where to put this?

I'm trying to seed a filter pad for my qt tank because I plan on going to a frag swap next month and picking up some corals. I have this tetra whisper 10i filter and I have the filter pad that goes with it. It's got carbon in it too. Can I stick it in my tank to seed it? And where would be a better location, sump or DT?

Placing it anywhere in an established tank should be fine.
