Can I cure dead rock without a skimmer?

I gave my friend my 13 inch pagoda cup today and he gave me some rock he had left over from setting up his tank to replace the void. I want to try and cure the rock a bit before placing it in my display. Can I just put it in a brute can with a pump and change the water every week? I've never cured rock before and I won't be able to put a skimmer in with it.

I've never used a skimmer to cure my rock. The idea is that you want the rock to remove the possible dead organics. Regardless of a skimmer you'd still have to do water changes.

+1, I cured my shelf rock in a garbage pail with circulation pump and heat. I used water from a WC. Remember to cover, no light whatsoever

agreed. NO LIGHT. Unless you really like algae blooms.
