Good evening, can I cut this anemone? It is probably 3 to 4 inches in diameter.

It will probably split again... it did a few months ago both pieces now 3-4 inches. Mostly curious cause I have seen/read about people cutting them no problem but when I try to research it I mostly come up with people doing it to bubble tips. I can’t find any online that exactly replicate this one... and I got it for free from a lfs, I wanted a hammer that he had and this anemone was stuck to the trunk. It was little maybe half inch or a bit less. He tried to get it off but couldn’t so he said it just goes with:).

yes you can cut it if it has split before, but its more at risk to die of bacterial problems and stress from the whole thing, might as well feed it a couple times a week to encourage it to split naturally. it is a purple tip green bta, havent seen em as much lately but they are around if you look, i think Aqua sd might have some

It's a bubble tip. It just doesn't look like it. What are your N03 and P04 levels. I have found running higher levels of P04 makes mine split all the time. I cut mine once every 4 to 6 weeks. If I'm trying to get some cash for new corals. I use a painters razor blade. They are 3 to 4 inches long and do a single cut. I also only use the razor blade for one days cutting. Don't use a rusty blade. I have about 50 nems in two different tanks.

Hey thanks dmantz1, I have been using API test kits and have never registered either one... until recently. I have been working with a moderate cyano bloom and I'm like there's no way I don't have measurable nutrients. So i purchased different kits (nyos and red sea) and my P04 was .1 and P03 was around 20ppm. So I have been working a little harder on nutrient export. I think I will try cutting one of mine sometime. I'm going to have fun getting one out though... both have their foot deep in my rock.

Good choice on the new test kits. As long as your N03 and P04 are balanced you'll be good. I shoot for 100 times P04 to N03. Mine are .16 P04 and 16 N03. Good luck with getting them off the rocks. I wait until they move on to the sand or glass.

Allow to split as you will have one big mess and toxins released

Yes sounds like a controversial subject... I didn’t know for sure if mine was a bta. As long as it’s a bta I’m not to worried at all, there is to much info supporting it.
