Hello,

My tank is in need of a really good cleaning and I also would like to move my live rock around. I first set it up bad as I have spots where crud builds up in the corners and it doesn't move. I'd like to re aquascape if I can so a few questions.

What would be the best way of Doing this? I have another tank set up with just water and a power head. Should I transfer my two clowns and the live rock to that tank, clean this one up and then move them all back? I wasn't sure about maybe my tank cycling after I did this.

My tank now has cob web looking algae and just really is not the cleanest. My LR has gray looking slime all over it too. I wanted to scrub it off if I could. Also have a ton of bristle worms :(.

Thanks for any help!

If you kick up enough detritus, you are likely to have a cycle. It could be small, or it may not happen at all. If you just have some crud built up in the corners of your current tank, why not add a couple powerheads, or adjust the ones you may already have? If you are set on removing the fish and rock, putting them in the other tank would be the way to go.

You can scrub wipe it down some in the tank, and set up a filter ahead of time, you didnt mention if you were running a skimmer?? That would also help. Yes, you can move everybody over, but I'd just worry about the fish in the other tank, the Rock you can just add to a bucket of water. Make sure you have water made up 24hours prior to needing it, and you want alot to change our other water out. Scrub your rock off in old tank water in a bucket, that way your not using FW and killing unnecessary bacteria. More than likely you will run into a mini cycle once you get it all back together. Watch the parameters, and do the needed WC to keep the levels as normal as possible.

I just updated my signiture to show the things I have currently. What i did was moved the power head to stir up some crud. Then did a WC. I mixed more water and will do this again and again for a few more times. I am growing algea pretty quick. I can clean the glass in the morning, Go to work and come home and it looks like green cob webs on the glass again. Some of this is probably because I dont have the lights on a timer yet so there on at 8:30 am and off at midnight most the time.

I really dislike the resivoir being in the back of my tank on my nano cube. Its hard to work with back there. I did suck out most the water in the back part and there was alot of crub in the bottom I pulled up.

Thanks for all the help. I get worried im going to do something thats going to badly affect my tank.

Take it slow and just remove garbage from the system, can't harm it that way. Leave the Rock and substrate alone, can't go wrong.
