Can I dose milk?

Maybe a scoop of chocolate ice cream?

Not a good idea. Milk has lots of nutrients (no surprise there, it's meant to have a calf grow 2lbs a day), so if you are to dose it, only use a little. No more than a drop or two per gallon. It would basically be just feeding your tank, except the fish and corals won't be able to eat it. Just stick with fish food. If you're really worried about carbon dosing (never been an issue with me), do it one of the tried and tested ways. Vinegar or vodka are most common.
So you're saying it would be good for my longhorn cowfish for rapid growth?

Regular kalkwasser is boring. is dosing milk advantageous in comparison for carbon and calcium contents?
That sounds like a horrible idea. Your dosing a high protein food source with calcium which might not be bioavailable. Benifical bacteria???? I don’t think they would survive in salt water.

Apparently that was old school tank cycling
More like bad bathroom habits. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes: I don’t dont remember that ever being a old school thing at least not one that anyone would admit or share . Glad I didn’t go to that school , old or new . whew !!!

Is there any medical or iso procedure if one of your fish turns out to be lactose intolerant though?
If you see bubbles coming from them don’t pop the bubbles or at least hold your breath .

I would say buttermilk or yogurt would be better because of the larger number of beneficial bacteria.
I get unpasteurized milk. Would that work? And, what dose for a 90 gallon system?

Yeah, just Google human urine to cycle aquarium. Just marking my territory ;-)

Are we also urinating in the tank still to cycle it?

I remember reading over a very advanced article on calcium/alk by Craig Bingman in Aquarium Frontiers Magazine in the early 90s when I was a very young and very dumb reefer. I got the great idea of dosing milk and tried it on a FOWLR tank I had--thankfully it just had a single fish in it at that time--a big gnarly grouper that I couldn't have kept much longer anyway on account of its size. Yeah, the whole tank crashed and everything (even including that tough-butt grouper) went down with it. Nope, I wouldn't recommend milk haha.

Im not sure about saltwater but supposedly the disposal of milk was considered hazardous due to toxicity to freshwater fish.

Just an fyi, human urine has very little ammonia in it. If it does, you are very ill.

Humans mostly excrete nitrogen as urea, which is much less toxic to humans.

You have to mix the milk with Stawberry Quik first. That's how Mike Tyson does it.

Wait, I nearly broke my neck. You literally p*ssed in your tank?
Wayyy back in my freshwater days, I wanted to test the theory on it, so yes, urine was introduced to a test tank. Like Randy mentioned above though, I don't think it was a very successful experiment. One could argue it does work, but it's probably so minimal of an effect. Better off squeezing a sponge from an established tank to get a cycle going.
