Hi all! I was wondering if i could drill my aqueon 36 gallon bowfront? I cant seem to find anything online about if being tempered or not. Figured I'd ask. The tank item number is 5262173.

As long as it doesn't have a sticker stating it is a tempered panel of glass, you should be fine to drill it.

There is also some methods to verify it using some stuff like polarized sunglasses, lap top screen or phone. There are some you tube videos that might help, I did the same thing with a couple of Aqueon 40B.

Curved front is almost certainly tempered. Other panels may be but probably not. Polarized sunglasses work pretty well to detemine for certain.

I had never heard of using polarized glasses. I'll have to look into that tip to figure out how that is supposed to work.

A long time ago I worked at a glass factory where we cut and tempered glass. Sometimes we would add a logo that got baked into the glass and other times we did not. IF you drill the glass you will know when you are done if it was tempered or not. :) I'm not certain if I would rely on a sticker that wasn't baked in, (or that may have been washed off?)

I'm going to google Polaroid Tempered Glass and educate myself now.

Aqueon tempers most bottoms of their tanks but not the sides.
A bow front the front would be I think.

On their site it list which have tempered bottoms:

But that is not 100 percent some of the Petco aquariums for the dollar per gallon sale have been tempered when they shouldn't.

Yes beware of stickers. I know a person that could not pass inspection on his house because he had some very nice old windows from Mexico that were up high on the wall to provide more light in a few rooms. The did not have the sticker, so no-passo. so he printed a bunch and stickered them. So now, passo.

Cool Thanks!
