Can i dump salt into the sump?

I wanted to up my salinity by adding salt to the sump, theres just cycled marine pure in the sump and no livestock at all. Will dumping some salt direct affect the beneficial bacteria?

Best to do slowly via water changes of higher salinity... is there any livestock in the whole system?

Not if you have any live stock in the entire system. I agree with @Clinton or do it by adding salt water when topping off.

You can do it but be aware:
New salt will cause a chemical reaction when it hits the water. They add stuff so the salt does not clump and dissolves faster. That reaction can cause heat which can effect livestock.
