I only have a porcelain crab and kenya tree that filter feeds i believe. I only feed the tank NLS pellets and LRS nano for my 10 gallon. is letting the frozen food defrost and than breaking it up before putting it into the tank enough for filter feeders or do i really need special filter food?

Kenyii tree needs nothing and porcelain- mysis shrimp, a piece of krill, clam would suffice

Kenya tree will get most of its nutrition from the light. No need to feed specials food for them. However you do want to make sure nutrients. Nitrates and phosphates aren't too low. Nitrates 2.5-10 ppm or so. Phosphates around .03-.1 ppm.

Right.. i thought these guys could survive strictly on filter feeding? do they need to be fed directly with solid food?

Porcelains are both filter feeders and scavengers. They need a food source for survival. As they typically hide in nems, they are not assured a supply of food and must receive supplemental source. Reef roids not a good source and will raise nitrates

dang... maybe that's why my first one croaked... i was only shooting frozen food into the tank and watching him grab everything out of the water. i thought that was enough =(
