A LFS has a Hoeven's Wrasse in stock.

I have two mandarins and wonder if the wrasse would be to much.

My tank is a 375 with the following in it:
2 Hippo Tangs
Yellow Belly Hippo Tang
1 Green Chromis
Regal Angel
Orange Shoulder Tang
Red Sea Emperor Angel
Yellow Tailed Angel
Flame Fin Tomini Tang
Coral Beauty
Male and female Orange Anthias (Lyretail)
Male and female Mandarin
2 Yellow Pyramid Butterfly
1 female Blue Eye Lyretail Anthia
1 Female Unknown Lyretail Anthia
1 Male Square Spot Anthia
1 Female Square Spot Anthia
1 Black Pyramid Butterfly

thoughts?

I think you'd be fine in a tank that size with no issues with a shortage of pods. I've had a few over the years and they've all readily accepted prepared foods as well, so they probably won't rely solely on pods. One thing to keep in mind is that they sleep in the sand, so if you're running a BB, you'll need a cup of sand for him and also they're notorious for eating snails & crabs.

I've got a pair of the hoeven's wrasse and a single mandarin in a 180. I've only had the wrasse for a few months but so far the mandarin is just as fat as ever. And, knock on wood, they have not picked at any of the snails, shrimp or feather dusters, and have not bothered my acro crabs or porcelain crabs - can't speak for hermits since i don't have any. These were the first wrasse I've had and I have to say they are great fish and wish I had gotten them sooner!

Not got to hear about the clean up grew. I would not want to have them all killed.

IMO, it's worth the risk. They're beautiful, active fish and while they will go after hermits, they won't target other crabs. Snails are fair game if they fall off the glass, but they are often consumed by hermits anyway if they go unnoticed. They seem to have the largest impact of my nassarius population, but not significant enough to rule the melanarus wrasse out.

Thanks for the responses. I think I am gonna pass on this, I do not feel like replacing snails all the time. While the wrasse is nice looking its just not worth it.
