So I'm getting algae film growth across the glass and tank. My CUC is supposed to arrive tomorrow or saturday. Can I turn my lights off until then to minimize growth? Would it help? I currently have 2 clowns and 2 fire shrimp.

any corals or nems?

I'm assuming this is a new tank and the answer to above is no.

yes, you can leave the lights off, it won't bother anything. your fish would prefer to have at least a little light during the day (ambient room lighting will be fine)..

why did you get fish before getting a cleanup crew?

No corals or nems.

I didn't have any algae or anything for the CUC to eat before I got the fish so I didn't want to get one only for them to starve.

Should be fine. Other than the algae you're trying to get rid of, you don't have anything that REQUIRES light.

Be carefull and don't overfeed the fish it causes excess nutrients which leads to algae.
