Can I place clove polyps in sand?

Hi, (weird question) but I have some palm tree corals/Clove polyps. It is quite a large colony. I’m wondering if I can bury the base/stolons in the sand (just slightly) with the polyps sticking out like real palm trees? I guess this would stop new growth, but do you think it would harm the colony? Just curious (the base is kinda ugly lol )

I think the sand will eventually smother the colony.

Kinda doing the same thing but by accident. Converting my bio cube to a seahorse tank and left some cloves in the tank. The sand covered the base but the existing polyps broke threw the sand. Doubt any new polyps would come threw the sand
