Can i put a octopus in my tank?

I have 150 gallon 6 ft long tank with fish only. Can i add octopus?
Tank mates are 5 tangs 5 angels and 3 anthias

I wouldn’t recommend it. They are best suited for a species only tank.

They can escape from the smallest gap in a tight fitting cover.

They can produce ink when startled which will require quick removal in their own system, let alone a fish filled one.

I also read they benefit from a lot of stimulation and being able to watch the outside world from their tank. In a location such as a kitchen where people often are.

Unfortunately there are probably a lot more reasons not to as well. Though they are awesome creatures! There are some good threads about keeping them if you do a quick search.

I would strongly advise against it. Octopus are master escape artists and unless you seal that tank tight, theyll figure a way out. On top of that they dont live very long and will likely attack your fish.

They are very smart animals and can escape the smallest openings if they can get their beak through the hole they can get out

I had one about 30 years ago. I was in my late teens and I found it by accident at the beach. I picked up a Coke can someone left in the water and my plan was to throw it away. So I'm dumping the water out of it and here comes Mr. Octopus out of the Coke can. Not knowing any better I took him home to my reef tank which was 90 gallons at the time.

Next day I was missing a fish or two...

The next day after that my shrimp were gone...

The 3rd day I found him on the floor dried up! I tried to seal the tank but I guess I wasn't careful enough. Those were the days of Metal Halides and large canopies. Anyway, I agree with what everyone said. Don't do it. It really requires a a special tank that is sealed. I've also seen them kept in jars as well but that seems cruel. So in the end my vote is not worth keeping. Way to much trouble. Cool animal however. When you can see him!!!

I kepted one a long time ago but in a tank by itself with every possible thing I could seal sealed they or not active and hide a lot. Would not trust with fish,shrimp, crabs they will eat all,

Escape artists
It’s a predator so anything it can catch it will try to kill (giant pacific have killed sharks)
I would recommend you get a all in one and modify it for the octopus

They also have very short lives just something to think about
