Hello!

I have 2 tanks set up right now, a 55g and a 130g. Both have sandbeds a little deeper than I would like! The 55g is 5 months old and the 125g is 3 months old. I’ve never vacuumed the sand in either tank, however I have a gold headed goby in the 55g and a fighting conch in the 125. My questions today are: can I reduce how much sand I have in these tanks over time to make for a cleaner look? Looking to be evenly around 1-2”. I think I’m around 3” in the 55 and 4 or so in the 125. And/or can I start vacuuming the sand, say 1/10 of the tank at a time, to help keep things cleaner?

I see no harm in the plan you mentioned based on patterns in our huge sand works thread. Nice reefs can do

if you notice excess clouding spreading around we should find another way, but if it’s clean when siphoned out it won’t harm

Cool! I’ve got water changes to do tomorrow, so I’ll start vacuuming the sand in both tanks, small sections at a time. this should simultaneously remove some sand a little at a time, killing two birds with one stone!
