Got a couple of frags last month and didn’t get all the algae off the post. Now it’s getting out of hand. Starting to spread onto the rock. Is it okay to pop the frag and post off the rock, clean it real good with a scraper in a bowl of tank water and then reglue it back where it was? I’ve tried using tweezers to clean it, but not much luck. Would that be okay, or is there a better way to clean up the Frag Without disturbing it?

Frag plugs never go in my display tank
I think I’m learning that lesson. Although, a lot of the frags I’ve gotten are fairly well encrusted on the posts. Don’t want to destroy all that growth. Only two are bad, so I’m going to take them out and scrape them clean.

What I’ve done in the past if it’s encrusted over the plug is cover the rest in putty while I’m planting it! Anything else like the one you posted I just cut off the plug and glue it down..

Thanks for the tips. I did have a hammer that came in with an Aptasia. Didn’t see it right away, but when I did, I covered it with glue. That worked well. I just have to get over the fear of damaging the Frag by cutting it off the post.

I always remove the original plug, and remount.

Any encrusting growth will regrow eventually. It's better to keep the unwanted out, then worry about a little growth.

I've been battling bryopsis for the better part of 5 years because of frag plugs. Among other uglies that come from frag plugs.
